LVL is the abbreviation of "Laminated Veneer Lumber". It is made of logs by peeling or slicing to make veneers. 1. Construction field:
Building structural parts: can be used for structural parts such as building beams and columns. The production process of LVL core sandwich panels mainly includes the following steps:
1. Raw material preparation:
LVL core preparation:
-Log processing: Select high-quality logs, such as poplar, eucalyptus, etc., and soak them in hot water to soften the wood and facilitate subsequent processing. On the other hand, it plays a certain role in killing insect eggs.
-Veneer cutting: The soaked logs are conveyed to the rotary cutter and rotary cut into veneers of a certain thickness. Modern advanced rotary cutters can achieve fully automatic rotary cutting by laser positioning the center of the wood to ensure the thickness uniformity and dimensional accuracy of the veneer.
-Veneer cutting and drying: The veneer that has just been rotary cut is continuous and needs to be cut into small pieces, then stacked and sent to the dryer for centralized drying to remove moisture from the wood so that its moisture content reaches a suitable range, generally between 8% and 12%, to ensure dimensional stability and strength during subsequent processing and use.
-Veneer grading and cutting: After drying, the veneer will be automatically graded. The machine scans the veneer and classifies them into different grades according to the number of knots, cracks and other defects on the veneer. After that, according to the design requirements of the sandwich board, the veneer is cut into a more standard size for standby use.
Panel preparation:
Select the appropriate panel material according to the needs, such as wood veneer, plywood, medium-density fiberboard (MDF), etc., and cut it into a size that matches the LVL core. The surface of the panel needs to be polished, sanded, etc. to ensure the surface flatness and finish.
2. Gluing:
-LVL core gluing: The cut LVL veneer is evenly coated with adhesive. The type and amount of adhesive need to be selected and controlled according to the specific production requirements and product performance. Generally speaking, the adhesive used should have good bonding properties, water resistance and heat resistance.
-Panel gluing: Similarly, the prepared MDF panel material is glued to ensure that the adhesive can be evenly covered on the surface of the panel, providing good bonding conditions for the subsequent gluing process.
3. Assembly:
- The glued LVL veneers are assembled according to the design requirements, that is, multiple veneers are stacked together in a certain direction and order to form the basic structure of the LVL core. During the assembly process, it is necessary to pay attention to the grain direction and alignment of the veneer to ensure the strength and stability of the LVL core.
- The assembled LVL core is placed between two glued MDF panels to form a sandwich structure. At this time, it is necessary to ensure that the position between the LVL core and the panel is accurate and the adhesive can fully contact to ensure the bonding effect.
4. Hot pressing:
- The assembled sandwich board is placed in a hot press and hot pressed under certain temperature, pressure and time conditions. The hot pressing temperature is generally between 100ºC and 200ºC, the pressure is adjusted according to the thickness and size of the board, and the hot pressing time is determined according to the curing speed of the adhesive and the performance requirements of the board. During the hot pressing process, the adhesive will undergo a curing reaction, firmly bonding the LVL core and the panel together to form an integral sandwich panel.
5. Cooling and trimming:
- After hot pressing, the sandwich panel needs to be cooled to room temperature to ensure the dimensional stability and performance of the panel. The cooling method can be natural cooling or air cooling.
- After cooling, the sandwich panel needs to be trimmed to remove excess parts and burrs on the edge, so that the size and edge of the panel are more neat and smooth. At the same time, the surface of the panel is inspected. If there are defects or quality problems, they need to be dealt with in time.
6. Quality inspection:
- The quality of the LVL core sandwich panel produced is inspected, including the inspection of the dimensional accuracy, flatness, strength, and bonding performance of the panel. Commonly used inspection methods include size measurement, flatness inspection, and mechanical property testing.
